"El beneficio del Silencio"

When Western Union asked Thomas Edison to "mention a price" for the teletype he had invented, he asked for several days to think about it. His wife suggested $ 20,000, but he thought that amount was exorbitant.

At the agreed time he went to the meeting still not quite sure how much he was going to ask when the officer asked, "How much?" He tried to say $ 20,000, but the words did not come out of his mouth. Finally the officer broke the silence and asked him: "Well, how about $ 100,000?"

Silence often allows others to say something better than we would have said ourselves! When we remain silent, others become more interested in our thoughts; So when we have an interested audience, our words have better impact.

The Bible tells us that even a fool, when he is silent, is counted wise (Proverbs 17:28). In that sense, silence can prevent us from seeing ourselves in an embarrassing situation. People may think that we are smarter than we really are!

When you feel moved to express an opinion, measure the impact of your words and keep this in mind: "The less you say, the better". We can not look for problems for what we have not said! Like Edison, we can benefit from our silence.

I often regret what I said; never to have shut up.

Proverbs 10:19 In the many words sin is not lacking; but he who restrains his lips is prudent.
